Asian Style BBQ Venison Steaks Recipe

4 Wild and Game venison steaks
For the marinade
2 tbsp light soy sauce
2 tbsp gochujang chilli paste
1 tbsp honey
2 tbsp toasted sesame oil
1 tbsp minced garlic
1 tbsp minced ginger

For the slaw

3 medium carrots
¼ red cabbage
¼ white cabbage
A handful of toasted sesame

For the dressing

½ tbsp minced garlic
½ tbsp minced ginger
2 tbsp toasted sesame oil
1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
1 tbsp honey
3 tbsp light soy sauce

To serve

rice and/or bread


1. Mix all the marinade ingredients and coat the steaks in it. Leave to marinade in the fridge for at least half an hour. Take out of the fridge half an hour before cooking.
2. Grate all the vegetables and mix the slaw dressing but don’t combine them yet.
3. Remove the meat from the marinade (lots will stick to it, and that’s good) and grill on the BBQ or in a grill pan on a medium-high heat until cooked to your liking – about 10 minutes for juicy, medium steaks.
4. Combine the dressing and the vegetables and top with the sesame seeds.
5. Let the steaks rest a few minutes once cooked then serve with the slaw and rice or bread.
