Why Game Meat

In a time when many meats are unethically and intensively reared, we offer a sustainable, healthy... solution. Game meat is delicious, interesting and in plentiful supply in the UK. Game animals are free to roam and feed naturally. They’re not pumped with hormones or kept in small pens and cages. Their meat takes on the flavour of the berries, plants, seeds and other wild food that game birds and animals enjoy, making it far more flavoursome and characterful than conventionally farmed meat. Miss the way chicken used to taste? Then try our pheasant and partridge. Want a juicy, flavoursome steak? Try our wild boar and venison. By choosing game you’re choosing a sustainable, natural source of food that for many years has been largely forgotten in the UK. It’s also a healthy choice – not only because of the lack of unpleasant additives, but also because wild game is leaner and higher in protein than farmed meats. Game meat is easy to prepare and enjoy – just follow the instructions on our cooking pages, or dive into our recipe section for inspirational recipes
from around the world. A whole new culinary adventure awaits…

Wild and Game Story

Back in 2017 our founders Steven Frampton and Michael Cannon, both wild game enthusiasts, decided to do something about the under-consumption of game in the UK.While our countryside yields an abundant supply of beautiful game meat, the traditions of cooking with it had largely been lost. Steven and Michael saw an opportunity to ignite a new passion for game while helping to cut reliance on imported and intensively farmed meat. They also wanted to encourage guardianship of our countryside and promote a healthier way of eating. Wild and Game began with a selection of hearty favourites including pies, pasties and sausages, as well as ready-to-cook meats and restaurant-quality ready meals designed to woo customers who felt timid about cooking with game themselves. The concept worked, with many people being inspired to try game for the first time and going on to become regular customers. As our customer base grows, so does our offering: responding to demand, we have added the highest quality, responsibly reared British lamb, pork and beef to our range, plus some of the finest British cheeses, delectable game charcuterie, award winning cold game pies, chutneys, and more. Our commitment to helping you enjoy game at its best means we’re continually adding wonderful game recipes to our website. These range from traditional favourites to imaginative dishes with international flavours. If you want to come along for the ride, try our monthly recipe boxes which will add new recipes to your repertoire every month. Our adventure with wild game continues, and we hope you’ll join us in embracing this lean, healthy, sustainable and delicious source of meat from our fields and forests.

Recyclable Packaging

Our commitment to sustainability means we’ve given a lot of thought to the way we package our....... products. We use recyclable cardboard boxes lined with WoolCol insulation, which is recyclable and can also be repurposed for everything from animal beds to furniture padding. Our food is kept cool by gel packs filled with a non-toxic water-based salt solution. These can be recycled, re-used or donated to local food rescue charities. They also make excellent freezer insulators.

Sourcing

The clue’s in our name: we sell wild game. That’s because we’re committed to responsibly raised meat... from birds and animals that have been free to roam and forage naturally. The result is better stewardship of our countryside and better meat for you to enjoy. Meat from animals that have enjoyed a varied, wild diet has a fuller, more complex flavour and is leaner and higher in protein than meat from farmed animals, as well as being free from hormones and other additives. These animals have also been protected from the stresses that can impair the flavour of their meat.

Quality

We hare currently rated through BRCGS – and we are A rated which is a very high stringent food safety standard. The BRCGS Global Standard for Food Safety was developed by food industry experts from retailers, manufacturers and food service organisations to ensure it is rigorous and detailed. To achieve the standard, we had all aspects of our business scrutinised, including storage, food safety and quality management, product control, hygiene, staff training and more. Our AA rating gives you the highest levels of confidence in our products and practices.

All about venison

One of the finest British meats, wild venison is a sustainable, affordable and lean alternative to.... beef that also has a distinct character of its own thanks to the rich and varied diet wild deer are free to enjoy. Fruit and berries, grasses, sedges, and the shoots, roots and leaves of trees create a rich, complex meat that evokes our forests and wild places. Venison pairs beautifully with wild ingredients: try it with berry sauces, toasted nuts and earthy foraged mushrooms. The flavour of our venison is robust enough to pair well with strong, spicy flavours, so it’s a beautiful ingredient for curries and other international dishes. Being lean and high in protein, it’s also an excellent choice if you’re watching your weight or building muscle. Take a look at our venison recipes for plenty of imaginative ways to enjoy this prince of British meats
